The warmth of wood

The renovation of this old apartment stems from the need to transform a compartmentalized and outdated layout into a warm, functional home filled with natural light. The project was designed with a clear purpose: to open up the spaces, maximize natural light, and establish a coherent layout between the day and night areas.

The kitchen becomes a hybrid space, visually open to the living room to promote connection between the common areas, yet with the option to separate it using iron and glass sliding doors. This versatility allows the space to adapt to daily needs without losing visual continuity or elegance. A distinctive detail is introduced in this setting: a ceramic backsplash on the countertop that extends onto the backs of the vertical columns, adding freshness and a Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic.

The selection of materials and finishes reinforces the warm atmosphere sought from the very beginning. The walls, finished with paint that mimics lime stucco, add texture and a natural feel, while the natural oak wood floors and the use of textiles such as linen and cotton introduce a sense of softness and comfort throughout the spaces.

One of the key elements of the home is the long central hallway, clad in natural wood, which serves as the main organizing axis of the house. Flush pivot doors are discreetly integrated along it, leading to the various service rooms. This solution visually conceals the entrances while adding order, continuity, and warmth to the passage.

Natural lighting has been enhanced through the inclusion of glass doors and interior windows that allow light to flow unobstructed, eliminating any sense of confinement and improving the spatial quality of every corner.

Overall, the project combines functionality, aesthetics, and comfort. Well-designed storage areas, multifunctional furniture, and decorative elements that add personality without overwhelming the spaces have been integrated. The result is a contemporary and balanced home, where each area serves its purpose without sacrificing the harmony of the whole.
